. . . To Modern Times
Now, centuries after coffee has completed its tour of the world,
it has become a staple in our lives, right up there with bread,
milk, and water. In fact, despite its detractors, coffee today ranks
second to water as the world's most consumed beverage. In France,
90% of adults drink coffee. It is the star of our wake-up routine
and plays a major role in most other daily routines. We drink it
during meals and during moments of intense reflection. Artists turn
to it for inspiration. It improves concentration and stimulates
both body and mind. Nothing tastes better with friendly discussion
and shared ideas the essence of our social lives.
Every street corner seems to be adorned with a coffee house these
days. People are no longer satisfied with instant coffee. They want
a strong black Espresso, a voluptuous cappuccino, or a café
latté. Yesterday's infatuation with coffee's aromas and pleasures
continues to develop and become more discriminate with each passing
day.
